Food Prepping

Do you food prep?

I started doing this years ago and I cannot tell you how much time and money it has saved us! Not to mention taking the stress away on those busy school nights. Menus planned and meals prepped help this busy, working mom run her home better!

How do I do it?

I love to food prep on Sunday nights. I get lunches prepped and ready for the week as well as cook all the meat I will be using for dinners. Bulk cooking saves time, energy, and money since you aren’t tempted to run through the drive thru. We always plan on eating out once a week for our date night, so having meals ready during the week is key!

I love using these  Stasher brand reusable storage bags from The Container Store . They save so much space.

For example, here are two leftover boxes that we had this week. Restaurant to go boxes stink up the fridge and don’t seal very well. They also take up a ton of space! So I transferred the leftovers into these stasher bags and wow, space saved and smells gone!

Not to mention, three lunches for this week all ready to go!

These reusable baggies are microwave, stovetop, and dishwasher safe! Here’s what the label says, I know you like to read labels too!

The half gallon bags hold a pot of white chicken chili that I prepped and made ahead. Make a pan of fresh cornbread, and dinner is served in 20 minutes!

Next I clean out my fridge and freezer.

I like to organize my fridge and freezer every week. Cleaning out the fridge weekly keeps it organized, and ensures we use everything we have. No waste. Plus it makes putting groceries away easier too!

IMG_6625.jpg

I love using these bins  in the fridge and freezer.  They are divided, which I love! The dividers are removable though, if you need the whole bin. Labels make it easy for my family to find what they want, and help everyone put away groceries!

Perfect for snacks in the fridge, or frozen foods in the freezer .

If you have a freezer drawer, try these wire baskets. I love having all the frozen bread items in mine.

IMG_6595.jpg

One quick grab and I have all the bread in one spot. Freezer organization made easy!

Here’s a tip to help keep your berries fresher, longer.

One last thing I want to show you. Save your berries and make them last longer using this apple cider vinegar soak.  Pour one half cup of vinegar (must be the kind that has “the mother”) into a bowl of water. Soak for one hour, rinse, and let air dry completely before putting back in the fridge. No vinegar after taste! Just fresh berries minus the spores that make them go bad.

IMG_6648.jpg

BUT, if you do have some soft berries, don’t toss them! Make frozen berry cubes. I made mine in this covered ice cube tray  . So yummy in fizzy water, lemonade, iced tea or champagne!

IMG_6651.jpg

So simple and easy. I have so many ideas for this tray. Freeze left over coffee to put in my iced coffees, cut up herbs and freeze in EVOO, make homemade baby food…so many ideas!

Did I help you today?

I hope so. Once you get the hang of food prepping, it will become easy and routine to do. Get your whole family involved. Put on some fun music and make Sunday nights family food prep night. Kids love to help, and everyone will love the benefit of a hot, ready to eat meal during the busy school week!

If you’re in the DFW area, I’d love to come help you. If not, I offer virtual organizing services. We FaceTime and I tell you what to do lol! It’s really fun.

I’m ready to help you today,

Spring Cleaning

Can you believe it’s March?!

March Madness doesn’t mean basketball tourneys to me, it means “LET’S GET THIS HOUSE CLEANED” !! My family loves March….lol!

Why do I spring clean?

Dust accumulates, closets are full, winter is over, and it’s time to lose this weight! Clutter weight really does weigh you down! Plus, every single surface needs a deep scrub.

So here’s how “we” clean my home…..and by “we” I mean me and The Container Store lol!!

IMG_5960 2.jpg

First I do a deep clean of every room.

Using harsh chemicals in my home is a thing of the past.  The Container Store now carries cleaning products! Did you know that? My favorite part is that they are all non toxic,  which is very important to me and my family.

Having a system in place makes all the difference.

House work is just that, work. And we wouldn’t got to our day jobs without the right tools and systems in place would we? That’s why I love this storage caddy .  I have one for upstairs and one for downstairs. It makes quick clean ups so easy. What I keep in my caddy is TCS’s all natural multi surface cleaner which contains orange essential oils , this 3-pack of dusting cloths, a small broom and dust pan, gloves, and these sponges.

Having everything with me in my tool box makes the job so much easier.

Can I also say how obsessed I am with this brush set by Full Circle? Not only are they gorgeous they get the job done! Click the links to see each one.

Tile and Grout Brush.    All Purpose Scrub Brush.   Micro Manager Detail Brush.

Mini Brush and Dustpan Set.   Full Circle Duster.    Mop.    Broom

IMG_6507 2.jpg

I love how they have built in loops to hang on the hook in my pantry!

IMG_6510.jpg

Next I do a deep purge of every closet, every cupboard; nothing is left untouched.

Once the space is purged and empty, I give it a once over with my vacuum and cleaning supplies. I use these cellulose sponge cloths to wipe every surface down.

The last step is to take all my donations to my favorite charity.  The Samaritan Inn

That’s it! That’s how I spring clean my home. I will say that I hire out the washing of my windows inside and out, and leave that to the experts. Me on a tall ladder is not a good thing. lol. #clutz

But, having all the tools I need to get the job done makes all the difference. I don’t have to start and stop because I can’t find what I need.

If you’re on the search for new cleaning supplies or need to update your cleaning tools, check out these great products at The Container Store. They are quality products plus affordable, which is exactly my style!

Need help spring cleaning your home? I love to clean out closets and purge; just ask my clients.

My dear sweet Mom in Love went to be with the Lord last Friday. It feels surreal to type those words. You always think (at least I did) about this day.

You are never ready for that phone call. We just lost my Father in Love six months ago. How can this be her time already?

I have heard countless stories from friends, of the same thing happening in their family. When two become one and are married for as long as they were (63 years) it’s hard to go on without your life partner.

She was such a fun loving, brutally honest, no nonsense, get up and get on with it type of person. She taught me so many things about life. She loved me. I knew it. But she would also tell me the truth, even if it hurt a little. Looking back I appreciate that about her.

My father in law called her the OG Ride or Die. She faithfully supported him behind the scenes as he pursued his football coaching dreams. She raised four children on a teacher/coach salary, which wasn’t much back in the day. She made things work and stretched herself beyond what we women have to do today.

She went back to school in her late forties to pursue her own teaching degree. And I have heard many stories from people of how she helped families and kids from all over the LC Valley. She and my father in law were such an example to so many.

She was so proud of me starting this organizing career of mine in my 50’s. She told me all the time how much she admired that. She cheered me on so many times.

I will miss her hand written letters and cards. I will miss her prayers. I will miss the long talks we used to have whenever she would come and visit us here in Texas. I will miss playing cards with her. I will miss her laugh. I will miss her honesty.

But I will cherish the memories we made along the way. This picture above is of us (along with my sister in love Wendy) on a girls’ trip to Napa, CA to celebrate my 50th birthday. We all take with us a little bit of her in our hearts forever. We all have a favorite Nanny T memory.

Here’s to you Genie! I will see you again someday. I’m so thankful you are no longer hurting and missing Papa. I love you.

Finding Hidden Storage

One of the first things I look for when preparing to organize a space is hidden storage options. I like thinking out of the box and using what my clients have before purchasing anything new.

For example, while helping a client get settled into their new home, they revealed they didn’t have a dresser because their previous home had so many built ins.

IMG_5913.jpg

So we turned this beautiful chest (that sits in their master bedroom entryway) into a makeshift dresser.

IMG_5915.jpg

Using my favorite bins from The Container Store , helped turn this chest into a perfect spot for all her workout clothes. Bins create “drawers”,  while labels and file folding make it easy to put clothes away!

Next, we went into her master bath and used these drawers for her undergarments.

IMG_5916.jpg

Drawer dividers from The Container Store separate each category, and basic labels help her know what goes where. If you have a housekeeper, it helps them too!

If you’re stuck in a rut with organizing your home, moving into a new space, or just want help getting started, hiring a pro organizer can help!

In the DFW area? I can help you! If not, I have a ton of pro organizer friends all over the country that I can recommend to you! #womensupportingwomen is a beautiful thing!

Happy Monday friends! Spring break is around the corner!!

I’m ready to help you today,

Lisa
