Custom Master Closet

A few weeks ago I was asked to be part of a fun collaboration with a new client.  The client was surprising his wife with an amazing anniversary gift…a new custom master closet from The Container Store.  He pulled off the surprise by scheduling a trip for he and his wife during the installation period. So fun right?!

Step 1: Design your dream master closet!

He started by visiting our local Container Store to set up a meeting with a custom master closet design specialist. Anna at the Fairview Container Store was the designer on this project. She met with the client several times in the store and at their home to discuss the wants and desires of the new custom master closet.

TCS designers will take the dimensions of your existing master closet, (or any closet in your home) and design the space of your dreams, complete with 3D pictures to get a real feel for the new space. The custom master closet designer will also make a trip to your home to measure again, and discuss your master closet desires in depth.

Once that process is done, the measurements get sent off for production. Depending on the size of the job, installation will begin in a matter of weeks.

Step 2: Where do I fit in?

Normally, I would come in after the custom master closet is finished, but in this instance, the client needed extra help during the install process to make sure it was all finished by the time they returned from their trip. We had four days to complete the entire process.

We arrived at their home minutes after they left for the airport and immediately got to work. We emptied the entire closet so the demo team could get busy. In a matter of hours, the master closet demolition was done.

Next, the electricians got to work wiring the lighting for the new custom master closet. The client chose special lighting all around the closet with extra lights on the shoe tower. While they were busy doing all that, we were changing out hangers, sorting clothes into like piles and shopping for organizing products to fit the space.

The next day the closet installers got to work, it was really fun to see the process unfold.

During the master closet installation process.

Four days later ….the results were astonishing….we made the deadline with hours to spare….the only thing left to do is to lay the carpet and do some touch up paint.

Here are some before and after pictures ….they say it best….

Can you believe the transformation? Before, no rhyme or reason to where the clothes and shoes were stored… after, a beautifully categorized space. Shoes with shoes, suits with suits… like with like items now have their own special place to live in this custom master closet by The Container Store.

I Like-It!

Do you ever come across a product that has so many uses you just can’t wait to use it?
Well this is that product for me….”this month” anyway lol!

Exhibit A:

The dreaded water bottle situation….no matter what system I use it has never worked! It is a constant mess; it doesn’t help that I have a rotating door of family members and grand babies needing water bottles. Not complaining just stating the facts 😉

If I could redo my kitchen, I’d choose all deep drawers instead of cupboards….but since I can’t, this is the best solution I found!

Before:

IMG_0582 4.jpg

And AFTER…..

I am in love with the like-it bins from The Container Store! Here I used the short wide drawer. They fit perfectly inside my kitchen cabinet shelf. No more bending over trying to find all the lids, or sweet family members just putting things in the wrong bin….at least they try ;-)….now they are all neatly contained in this one drawer!

I separated the drawers by water bottles and lunch items. It looks so nice and clean now!

IMG_0585.jpg

Exhibit B:

I needed some more storage in my Neat Freak office to hold supplies. I like to stock up on things that I use all the time. But I wanted them in the closet, not sitting on my desk. So….you guessed it, I used the like-it bins here too!

IMG_0580 2.jpg

For this project I used  two tall wide drawers and two tall medium drawers.

They fit perfectly on the floor and give me the storage I need!

IMG_0577 2.jpg

IMG_0576 2.jpg

I added some simple labels and just like that I’m organized and happy!

Exhibit C:

The laundry room! Most clients I work with need extra storage in the laundry room. These work perfectly!

IMG_0600 2.jpg

I stacked three tall wide like-it bins to create extra storage in the laundry room. I paired it with the three bin laundry sorter and we have instant organization!

Exhibits D, E, F, G, H, I and J!

I have so many ideas floating around in my head on how to use these drawers!

Dorm Room: school supplies, bathroom supplies, dresser drawers

Baby Room: diapers, wipes, changing pads, baby clothes, bath supplies

Closets: use as a dresser for young children’s clothing so they can dress themselves

Kitchen: under the sink storage, pantry drawers, cleaning supplies

Bathrooms: back stock supplies, personal products, washcloths, cleaning supplies

Garage: tool storage, golf balls, golf accessories, power cords, gardening supplies

Back yard: bbq tools, pool supplies, pool towels, pool toys, swim diapers

What ideas do you have? Tell me, I’d love to hear! And as always, if you need help, I’m an email away!

The Farmhouse Bin

I pretty much organize every day all day, and I get stuck on current favorites!, my “Steady Eddy” go to’s. Well these are my faves right now!  The Farmhouse Bin  from the Container Store.

IMG_7509.PNG

They work with every aesthetic;  modern, farmhouse, or eclectic… whatever your style may be, they work.

I use them all over my home, as well as in my clients’.

IMG_7328.jpg

I just switched out my summer and winter clothes in my closet, and used these bins for all my hats. In the summer I’m a total hat girl, gotta keep that sun off my face! #tryingtogrowoldgracefully !

IMG_7321.jpg

I spring cleaned my coat closet and organized all the winter hats,  scarves, and gloves using these covered farmhouse bins .

IMG_7290 2.jpg

Add a label so everyone knows where to find things, and call it done!

IMG_7294 2.jpg

All cleaned, sorted, and ready to go for next year! Do you swap seasonal clothes? Try using one box for two things. I use this farmhouse under bed box  to store sweaters in the summer, and beach bags in the winter. One box for two jobs! #spacesaver too!

I recently organized a master closet for my client and sorted her denim into two of these bins.

Spring Cleaning

Can you believe it’s March?!

March Madness doesn’t mean basketball tourneys to me, it means “LET’S GET THIS HOUSE CLEANED” !! My family loves March….lol!

Why do I spring clean?

Dust accumulates, closets are full, winter is over, and it’s time to lose this weight! Clutter weight really does weigh you down! Plus, every single surface needs a deep scrub.

So here’s how “we” clean my home…..and by “we” I mean me and The Container Store lol!!

IMG_5960 2.jpg

First I do a deep clean of every room.

Using harsh chemicals in my home is a thing of the past.  The Container Store now carries cleaning products! Did you know that? My favorite part is that they are all non toxic,  which is very important to me and my family.

IMG_5951 2.jpg

Having a system in place makes all the difference.

House work is just that, work. And we wouldn’t got to our day jobs without the right tools and systems in place would we? That’s why I love this storage caddy .  I have one for upstairs and one for downstairs. It makes quick clean ups so easy. What I keep in my caddy is TCS’s all natural multi surface cleaner which contains orange essential oils , this 3-pack of dusting cloths, a small broom and dust pan, gloves, and these sponges.

IMG_6504.jpg

Having everything with me in my tool box makes the job so much easier.

Can I also say how obsessed I am with this brush set by Full Circle? Not only are they gorgeous they get the job done! Click the links to see each one.

Tile and Grout Brush.    All Purpose Scrub Brush.   Micro Manager Detail Brush.

Mini Brush and Dustpan Set.   Full Circle Duster.    Mop.    Broom

IMG_6508.jpg

IMG_6507 2.jpg

I love how they have built in loops to hang on the hook in my pantry!

IMG_6509.jpg

IMG_6510.jpg

Next I do a deep purge of every closet, every cupboard; nothing is left untouched.

Once the space is purged and empty, I give it a once over with my vacuum and cleaning supplies. I use these cellulose sponge cloths to wipe every surface down.

IMG_6505.jpg

IMG_6506.jpg

The last step is to take all my donations to my favorite charity.  The Samaritan Inn

That’s it! That’s how I spring clean my home. I will say that I hire out the washing of my windows inside and out, and leave that to the experts. Me on a tall ladder is not a good thing. lol. #clutz

But, having all the tools I need to get the job done makes all the difference. I don’t have to start and stop because I can’t find what I need.

If you’re on the search for new cleaning supplies or need to update your cleaning tools, check out these great products at The Container Store. They are quality products plus affordable, which is exactly my style!

Need help spring cleaning your home? I love to clean out closets and purge; just ask my clients.

Finding Hidden Storage

One of the first things I look for when preparing to organize a space is hidden storage options. I like thinking out of the box and using what my clients have before purchasing anything new.

For example, while helping a client get settled into their new home, they revealed they didn’t have a dresser because their previous home had so many built ins.

IMG_5913.jpg

So we turned this beautiful chest (that sits in their master bedroom entryway) into a makeshift dresser.

IMG_5915.jpg

Using my favorite bins from The Container Store , helped turn this chest into a perfect spot for all her workout clothes. Bins create “drawers”,  while labels and file folding make it easy to put clothes away!

Next, we went into her master bath and used these drawers for her undergarments.

IMG_5916.jpg

Drawer dividers from The Container Store separate each category, and basic labels help her know what goes where. If you have a housekeeper, it helps them too!

IMG_5917.jpg

If you’re stuck in a rut with organizing your home, moving into a new space, or just want help getting started, hiring a pro organizer can help!

In the DFW area? I can help you! If not, I have a ton of pro organizer friends all over the country that I can recommend to you! #womensupportingwomen is a beautiful thing!

Happy Monday friends! Spring break is around the corner!!
