Baskets

I. Love. Baskets.

…..said in my best Oprah voice!

IMG_1496.JPG

I use them in every room, and for so many different things. Take this basket above from Home Goods. I used three of them in a pantry last week and you all went crazy for them! I love to get things up off the floor, and these worked perfectly to house all the to go cups, plates, and napkins! They also work great to hold paper and plastic bags, pre packaged snack items, trash bags and cleaning rags, and the list goes on and on.

IMG_1468.JPG

I linked similar ones on my LiketoKnow.it account. If you don’t have that app, it’s so easy to use. Trust me, if I can use it, so can you lol! Just download it in your App Store, look for me, Neat Freak McKinney, or any of your other favorite accounts, hit follow, and viola, you can see and shop all my/our favorites right there.

Ok, where was I? Baskets.

IMG_1501 2.JPG

Baskets are a great way to add texture to your space. Neutrals are so in at the moment,  and using baskets will add beautiful pattern and depth to your room.

IMG_1497 2.JPG

I have and use them all over my home. I use this one in my office as a recycle bin. I found it years ago for under ten dollars at TJ Maxx.

Similarly, I use these from Pottery Barn to hold office supplies by my desk.

IMG_1498.JPG

The lids make it easy to stack, to hide, or to keep little hands out! I store my calculator, {yes, I’m #oldschool}, my current month’s work receipts, and envelopes on one side, and all my decorative banners on the other.

IMG_1500.JPG

In this  basket  I keep all my Neat Freak note cards. These bamboo bin clips are my favorite way to label right now. My assistant makes all the vinyl labels you see in all my posts. Message me to order!

IMG_1503 2.JPG

This woven tray from Pottery Barn (similar one linked) has been a favorite of mine for years. It has served as a backdrop behind a potted plant (for texture and to hide cords), as a breakfast in bed tray, as a party basket to hold plates, napkins and silverware, and as a magazine tray on my coffee table. It’s literally been everywhere, and I love it.

Baskets are an easy way to add warmth, texture, depth and storage to every room in your home. You can find them in any price point too. That’s why I love them and use them so much.

I Like-It!

Do you ever come across a product that has so many uses you just can’t wait to use it?
Well this is that product for me….”this month” anyway lol!

Exhibit A:

The dreaded water bottle situation….no matter what system I use it has never worked! It is a constant mess; it doesn’t help that I have a rotating door of family members and grand babies needing water bottles. Not complaining just stating the facts 😉

If I could redo my kitchen, I’d choose all deep drawers instead of cupboards….but since I can’t, this is the best solution I found!

Before:

IMG_0582 4.jpg

And AFTER…..

I am in love with the like-it bins from The Container Store! Here I used the short wide drawer. They fit perfectly inside my kitchen cabinet shelf. No more bending over trying to find all the lids, or sweet family members just putting things in the wrong bin….at least they try ;-)….now they are all neatly contained in this one drawer!

I separated the drawers by water bottles and lunch items. It looks so nice and clean now!

IMG_0585.jpg

Exhibit B:

I needed some more storage in my Neat Freak office to hold supplies. I like to stock up on things that I use all the time. But I wanted them in the closet, not sitting on my desk. So….you guessed it, I used the like-it bins here too!

IMG_0580 2.jpg

For this project I used  two tall wide drawers and two tall medium drawers.

They fit perfectly on the floor and give me the storage I need!

IMG_0579 2.jpg

IMG_0577 2.jpg

IMG_0576 2.jpg

I added some simple labels and just like that I’m organized and happy!

Exhibit C:

The laundry room! Most clients I work with need extra storage in the laundry room. These work perfectly!

IMG_0600 2.jpg

I stacked three tall wide like-it bins to create extra storage in the laundry room. I paired it with the three bin laundry sorter and we have instant organization!

IMG_0601 2.jpg

IMG_0604 2.jpg

IMG_0606 3.jpg

Exhibits D, E, F, G, H, I and J!

I have so many ideas floating around in my head on how to use these drawers!

Dorm Room: school supplies, bathroom supplies, dresser drawers

Baby Room: diapers, wipes, changing pads, baby clothes, bath supplies

Closets: use as a dresser for young children’s clothing so they can dress themselves

Kitchen: under the sink storage, pantry drawers, cleaning supplies

Bathrooms: back stock supplies, personal products, washcloths, cleaning supplies

Garage: tool storage, golf balls, golf accessories, power cords, gardening supplies

Back yard: bbq tools, pool supplies, pool towels, pool toys, swim diapers

What ideas do you have? Tell me, I’d love to hear! And as always, if you need help, I’m an email away!

Bathroom Organization

I get asked a lot about how to keep a bathroom organized.

IMG_7646.jpg

My answer is simple: less is more. Three towels per person, and a basket or bin for everything. When everything has a home, you know where it is, and you will use it! This basket  above holds all my washcloths. Simple and pretty!

IMG_7648.jpg

Keeping less not only ensures a clutter-less space, it also ensures that you are actually using everything you own. #proorganizersmotto #husbandscupboard Golf Accessory Storage Bin

IMG_7649.jpg

I like to keep all my cleaning supplies in one place too. This bin is perfect! When I go to clean my bathroom, I have everything I need, where and when I need it. My favorite scrub brush makes cleaning the shower and bathtub a breeze.

IMG_7191.jpg

I updated our shower storage recently. These built in corner units are nice but the wet bar of soap never stayed put. I love this soap caddy  It has a screw on tightener that actually works! And shaving in the shower just got easier for my hubs with this shower mirror.

IMG_7194.jpg

My side needed an upgrade as well. Since coloring my hair, I have a lot more shampoo products to keep. I like to switch up my products, and with this gel lock bin I can keep several bottles in my shower.

IMG_7195.jpg

The side knobs are perfect for hanging a luffa, mirror, or washcloth!

IMG_7041.jpg

I think your bathroom should be a pretty space that you enjoy. It’s the first place I go in the morning, and the last place I am at night before bed. Make it a space you love.

One of my favorite self care rituals to do is take a long soak in my tub with lavender oil, a glass of red, and a good book. This bath tub caddy is perfect! It’s pretty AND practical, a win win in my book.

IMG_7186.jpg

Do you or any of your kiddos have long hair? Then, this starfish hair catcher is a must. No more “snaking” long gross hairs out of your shower or bathtub drain! It comes in a pretty teal color too!

IMG_7189.jpg

The suction cups keep it in place. Perfect for bathing babies, as it covers the hard metal drain pull.

IMG_7197.jpg

And last but not least, my guest room bath received an upgrade with this three tiered caddy. The top bin is for grown ups, second bin is baby wash, and third bin is for baby toys! I give a lot of baths to our grand babies here.

IMG_7200.jpg

It’s sleek and clean and holds a lot! You can hang it from the shower curtain bar or the shower head. Either way it’s a great storage solution!

IMG_7208.jpg

If you have small children, use this corner caddy for their soap and toys. It’s easy for them to reach, but keeps the corners of your tub clean and free of soap residue. Makes cleaning your tub so much easier.

Thanks for reading and letting me share my favorite bathroom organizers with you! What room needs updating or tweaking in your home to make it work better for you?

The Farmhouse Bin

I pretty much organize every day all day, and I get stuck on current favorites!, my “Steady Eddy” go to’s. Well these are my faves right now!  The Farmhouse Bin  from the Container Store.

IMG_7509.PNG

They work with every aesthetic;  modern, farmhouse, or eclectic… whatever your style may be, they work.

I use them all over my home, as well as in my clients’.

IMG_7328.jpg

I just switched out my summer and winter clothes in my closet, and used these bins for all my hats. In the summer I’m a total hat girl, gotta keep that sun off my face! #tryingtogrowoldgracefully !

IMG_7321.jpg

I spring cleaned my coat closet and organized all the winter hats,  scarves, and gloves using these covered farmhouse bins .

IMG_7290 2.jpg

Add a label so everyone knows where to find things, and call it done!

IMG_7294 2.jpg

All cleaned, sorted, and ready to go for next year! Do you swap seasonal clothes? Try using one box for two things. I use this farmhouse under bed box  to store sweaters in the summer, and beach bags in the winter. One box for two jobs! #spacesaver too!

IMG_7318.jpg

Store beach bags in the winter……

IMG_7315.jpg

and sweaters in the summer….win-win!

I recently organized a master closet for my client and sorted her denim into two of these bins.

IMG_6265.jpg

light denim…..and….

IMG_6264.jpg

dark/white denim….just needs a label and she’s all sorted!

What are your current faves for organizing? I’d love to know!

Clean Freak VS Neat Freak

Hmmmm what’s the difference you might ask? Well here’s how the dictionary defines them.

clean freak

adjective

\ ˈklēn \

Definition of clean freak

: a person who always wants things free from dirt or grime

neat freak

noun

Definition of neat freak

: a person who always wants things to be very orderly and clean

Are you one of these or both?

Truth is, unless I lived completely alone lol – {and how fun would that be?}- I can’t have them both all the time, every day.

BUT having solutions set up in my home not only helps me, but helps my whole family. If you don’t have a system in place, how can you expect your family to help you?

Bins, labels, and a home for everything will help you stay neat and tidy.

A weekly cleaning schedule will help your home stay clean.

Involve your kids in household chores.

Make it fun for them and you. Put on fun music and work alongside them. Teaching them these skills young can instill a life long habits.

Last Saturday I was spring cleaning my master bedroom and my granddaughter asked if she could help! She loved being part of my day. Having all my cleaning tools in one area was a great help too. I love this  caddy from The Container Store . It helps me stay organized because all my cleaning supplies live in one bin. It also helps me stay clean because when it’s time to tackle the dirt, I have all the supplies I need. Win-Win.

My granddaughter is using this sponge cloth to wipe down all the window sills for me. She loved helping and we had a sweet time together.

Do you need a system in your home? I’m a message away! And I’d love to help you!

Spring Cleaning

Can you believe it’s March?!

March Madness doesn’t mean basketball tourneys to me, it means “LET’S GET THIS HOUSE CLEANED” !! My family loves March….lol!

Why do I spring clean?

Dust accumulates, closets are full, winter is over, and it’s time to lose this weight! Clutter weight really does weigh you down! Plus, every single surface needs a deep scrub.

So here’s how “we” clean my home…..and by “we” I mean me and The Container Store lol!!

IMG_5960 2.jpg

First I do a deep clean of every room.

Using harsh chemicals in my home is a thing of the past.  The Container Store now carries cleaning products! Did you know that? My favorite part is that they are all non toxic,  which is very important to me and my family.

IMG_5951 2.jpg

Having a system in place makes all the difference.

House work is just that, work. And we wouldn’t got to our day jobs without the right tools and systems in place would we? That’s why I love this storage caddy .  I have one for upstairs and one for downstairs. It makes quick clean ups so easy. What I keep in my caddy is TCS’s all natural multi surface cleaner which contains orange essential oils , this 3-pack of dusting cloths, a small broom and dust pan, gloves, and these sponges.

IMG_6504.jpg

Having everything with me in my tool box makes the job so much easier.

Can I also say how obsessed I am with this brush set by Full Circle? Not only are they gorgeous they get the job done! Click the links to see each one.

Tile and Grout Brush.    All Purpose Scrub Brush.   Micro Manager Detail Brush.

Mini Brush and Dustpan Set.   Full Circle Duster.    Mop.    Broom

IMG_6508.jpg

IMG_6507 2.jpg

I love how they have built in loops to hang on the hook in my pantry!

IMG_6509.jpg

IMG_6510.jpg

Next I do a deep purge of every closet, every cupboard; nothing is left untouched.

Once the space is purged and empty, I give it a once over with my vacuum and cleaning supplies. I use these cellulose sponge cloths to wipe every surface down.

IMG_6505.jpg

IMG_6506.jpg

The last step is to take all my donations to my favorite charity.  The Samaritan Inn

That’s it! That’s how I spring clean my home. I will say that I hire out the washing of my windows inside and out, and leave that to the experts. Me on a tall ladder is not a good thing. lol. #clutz

But, having all the tools I need to get the job done makes all the difference. I don’t have to start and stop because I can’t find what I need.

If you’re on the search for new cleaning supplies or need to update your cleaning tools, check out these great products at The Container Store. They are quality products plus affordable, which is exactly my style!

Need help spring cleaning your home? I love to clean out closets and purge; just ask my clients.
