Christmas Is Coming!

“Christmas is coming” my husband always says! When our kids were younger, whenever they would say they liked or wanted something he would say “Christmas is coming!” …even if it was February 1st lol. But guess what? Christmas really is coming….and soon!

Are you ready for the holidays?

I know every year it comes around faster than we realize. We are just getting our pool toys put away and BAM, we turn around and it’s Christmas.

This year with help from The Container Store I’m all set!

Are you a gift wrap or gift bag person?

I’ve always been a gift bag person, but either way you can find what you need at The Container Store.  They have a beautiful selection of gift bags and tissue paper to choose from, as well as gift tags!  I love going in there and seeing the beautiful displays of holiday wrapping ideas. They make it easy to find all the coordinating designs for your color scheme.

Can we talk about ribbon for a minute? I’m so in love with this pretty velvet Santa ribbon! I also grabbed a couple of rolls of this white satin ribbon that’s trimmed with red pom poms! This year my theme is going to be this craft paper with the ribbons I mentioned above. Here’s a sneak peek!

Brown paper packages tied up with ….ribbon!

IMG_3384.JPG
These are a few of my favorite things!

It’s classic and fun and goes with my natural wood colored theme, with just a fun touch of red! I also love these reusable jute gift bags! You can use them over and over again. Add fun tissue paper and you’re all set!

How do you organize your gift wrap?

This year Christmas came early for me in the form of this AMAZING ELFA gift wrap cart! For real’s, my organizing dream come true! The best part is that you can roll it from room to room. Kids hanging out in the den? No problem, just roll it into your bedroom. Here’s mine all decked out and ready to go!

So versatile!

IMG_3373.JPG
It holds everything you need! All in one place.

It even has a ribbon arm!

Can we talk about this for a minute? Five drawers, a ribbon dispenser, wrapping paper organizer, hard top surface for wrapping gifts….AND it’s on wheels?? And look at the top drawer! It has a clear divided tray to hold tape, gift tags, pens, whatever you want! You guys, I haven’t been this excited for something since my husband bought me the vacuum of my dreams LOL!

I’m so excited to show you the new T.H.E. organization products from iDesign at The Container Store!

I’ve been sitting on this fun secret for a while, and now I get to share it with you!

If you don’t know who The Home Edit girls are click the link to see! They are organizing guru’s from Nashville, TN that have taken the organization world by storm. They just published a book and now have a line of products at The Container Store. #GOALS!

IMG_8881.jpg

Today I’m going to show you their craft room/school room/play room products! I tried them out with my grandkids and they gave the new products two thumbs up.

IMG_8348.jpg

My grandson loves all things lego so these large divided drawers were a perfect solution. He loves color coding as much as I do! He can easily find the pieces he needs to make his lego creations!

IMG_8334.jpg

He built this little house and garage complete with a car that has lights on it!

The Home Edit kids label pack made this organizer and label lover so happy! They are easy to peel and stick, and come off just as easy! They designed label packs  for your whole home too!

IMG_8310.jpg

I love that the lego sheets fit the top of these stacking drawers perfectly!

IMG_8309.jpg

I chose these canisters to hold his lego vehicles and back stock pieces. They stack for easy storage. The labels help my grandson find what he needs, and also reminds him where the pieces go when he is finished.

IMG_8349.jpg

He could literally make lego creations all day, and I love that!! Legos over TV at Nana’s house ;-).

IMG_8316.jpg

My granddaughters love creating art, so I couldn’t think of a better way to store art supples than with these divided turn tables.  I’ve always loved these iDesign turntables, but T.H.E. girls made them better with removable dividers and a storage cup!

IMG_8321.jpg

The cup allows you to take a specific item out easily! The labels help the kids know where everything goes when they are done!

As a teacher, these would be AMAZING in a school room! Set one on each table and let the students create to their hearts content! Hint: great teacher appreciation gift!

IMG_8330.jpg

One last thing I want to show you is this smaller turn table that I use to hold play doh and play doh tools. The sides are lower but still spin for easy access…. I get giddy just thinking of ways to use these new products all over my home!

Head to The Container Store today to see all the amazing designs T.H.E. girls created. Don’t have The Container Store near you? Visit their website! They deliver right to your door!

These products are kid tested and teacher approved!

Food Prepping

Do you food prep?

I started doing this years ago and I cannot tell you how much time and money it has saved us! Not to mention taking the stress away on those busy school nights. Menus planned and meals prepped help this busy, working mom run her home better!

IMG_6620.jpg

How do I do it?

I love to food prep on Sunday nights. I get lunches prepped and ready for the week as well as cook all the meat I will be using for dinners. Bulk cooking saves time, energy, and money since you aren’t tempted to run through the drive thru. We always plan on eating out once a week for our date night, so having meals ready during the week is key!

I love using these  Stasher brand reusable storage bags from The Container Store . They save so much space.

IMG_6617.jpg

For example, here are two leftover boxes that we had this week. Restaurant to go boxes stink up the fridge and don’t seal very well. They also take up a ton of space! So I transferred the leftovers into these stasher bags and wow, space saved and smells gone!

IMG_6618.jpg

Not to mention, three lunches for this week all ready to go!

IMG_6620.jpg

These reusable baggies are microwave, stovetop, and dishwasher safe! Here’s what the label says, I know you like to read labels too!

IMG_6452.jpg

The half gallon bags hold a pot of white chicken chili that I prepped and made ahead. Make a pan of fresh cornbread, and dinner is served in 20 minutes!

IMG_6602.jpg

Next I clean out my fridge and freezer.

I like to organize my fridge and freezer every week. Cleaning out the fridge weekly keeps it organized, and ensures we use everything we have. No waste. Plus it makes putting groceries away easier too!

IMG_6625.jpg

I love using these bins  in the fridge and freezer.  They are divided, which I love! The dividers are removable though, if you need the whole bin. Labels make it easy for my family to find what they want, and help everyone put away groceries!

IMG_6624.jpg

Perfect for snacks in the fridge, or frozen foods in the freezer .

IMG_6657.jpg

IMG_6610.jpg

If you have a freezer drawer, try these wire baskets. I love having all the frozen bread items in mine.

IMG_6595.jpg

One quick grab and I have all the bread in one spot. Freezer organization made easy!

IMG_6605.jpg

Here’s a tip to help keep your berries fresher, longer.

One last thing I want to show you. Save your berries and make them last longer using this apple cider vinegar soak.  Pour one half cup of vinegar (must be the kind that has “the mother”) into a bowl of water. Soak for one hour, rinse, and let air dry completely before putting back in the fridge. No vinegar after taste! Just fresh berries minus the spores that make them go bad.

IMG_6648.jpg

BUT, if you do have some soft berries, don’t toss them! Make frozen berry cubes. I made mine in this covered ice cube tray  . So yummy in fizzy water, lemonade, iced tea or champagne!

IMG_6651.jpg

So simple and easy. I have so many ideas for this tray. Freeze left over coffee to put in my iced coffees, cut up herbs and freeze in EVOO, make homemade baby food…so many ideas!

Did I help you today?

I hope so. Once you get the hang of food prepping, it will become easy and routine to do. Get your whole family involved. Put on some fun music and make Sunday nights family food prep night. Kids love to help, and everyone will love the benefit of a hot, ready to eat meal during the busy school week!

If you’re in the DFW area, I’d love to come help you. If not, I offer virtual organizing services. We FaceTime and I tell you what to do lol! It’s really fun.

I’m ready to help you today,

Lisa

Spring Cleaning Your Closet

Closets Need Spring Cleaning Too

Winter is over in most parts of the country. It’s time to clean out our closets and get ready for spring and summer.

But where do I begin?

Step 1. Start By Upgrading Your Hangers

After:

Before:

IMG_3297

This time of year The Container Store has everything closet related on sale. Now is the time to stock up and save.

By switching all your hangers to match, it creates visual and mental lightness and satisfaction.

Step 2.  Touch Everything In Your Closet

Take everything out of your closet! Yes, everything! By taking everything out of your closet and putting your hands on it, you will know if you desire to keep it or toss it. This helps you sort into “like with like” piles too.

IMG_3126.jpgIMG_3127.jpg

Step 3. Use Bins And Labels To Store Off Season Accessories.

Use labeled bins to swap winter and summer accessories. The tags have two sides, so for example, one side can be used for winter scarves, the other side for swimwear.

IMG_3136IMG_3144

Step 4. Keep Only What You Love And Still Wear

It’s time to put it all back in now. You’ve sorted, purged and kept only what you still love and wear.

Having a hard time deciding? Ask yourself these questions:

  • Does it still fit?
  • Do I still love it?
  • Would I buy it today?
  • Am I keeping this because “someone gave it to me?”

After you’ve answered those questions honestly, you will be left with only what you want and need to keep. The rest can be donated.

IMG_3187.jpgIMG_3188IMG_3215

Step 5. Create Zones And Put Back In

Now that you have only what you will be keeping, create zones. Dress shirts, dresses, sweaters, blouses, etc.

Put it all back in the newly created zones. This helps you know exactly what you have, where to find it, and where to put it back when it comes home from the dry cleaning or laundry.

Step 6. Donate Purged Items To Charity

There are many people in need. Why hang on to stuff you don’t use when someone else can use it? Many charities will pick up directly from your front porch. Goodwill Stores will take everything too. Find one in your area.

Let’s Review:

  • Purge your closet of everything, yes everything.
  • Sort like with like.
  • Keep only what you love and wear.
  • Get all matching hangers.
  • Create zones.
  • Use bins and labels to store off season accessories.
  • Donate purged items to charity.

And If You Need Help, I’m Here For You!

Lisa
